人违背命令　
　　蛇是主上帝所创造的动物当中最狡猾的。蛇问那女人∶“上帝真的禁止你们吃园子里任何果树的果子吗？”
　　那女人回答∶“园子里任何树的果子我们都可以吃；只有园子中间那棵树的果子不可吃。上帝禁止我们吃那棵树的果子，甚至禁止我们摸它；如果不听从，我们一定死亡。”
　　蛇回答∶“不见得吧！你们不会死。上帝这样说，因为他知道你们一吃了那果子，眼就开了；你们会像上帝一样能够辨别善恶。”[注解]　
　　那女人看见那棵树的果子好看好吃，又能得智慧，就很羡慕。她摘下果子，自己吃了，又给她丈夫吃；她丈夫也吃了。他们一吃那果子，眼就开了，发现自己赤身露体；因此，他们编了无花果树的叶子来遮盖身体。
　　那天黄昏，他们听见主上帝在园子里走，就跑到树林中躲起来。但是主上帝呼唤那人∶“你在哪里？”
　　他回答∶“我听见你在园子里走，就很害怕，躲了起来；因为我赤身露体。”
　　上帝问∶“谁告诉你是光着身体的呢？你吃了我禁止你吃的果子吗？”
　　那人回答∶“你给我作伴侣的那女人给我果子，我就吃了。”
　　主上帝问那女人∶“你为什么这样做呢？”
　　她回答∶“那蛇诱骗我，所以我吃了。”
　　上帝判罪　
　　于是，主上帝对那蛇说∶“你要为这件事受惩罚。在所有动物中，只有你受这诅咒∶从现在起，你要用肚子爬行，终生吃尘土。我要使你跟那女人彼此仇视，她的后代跟你的后代互相敌对。他要打碎你的头；你要咬伤他的脚跟。”
　　主上帝对那女人说∶“我要大大增加你怀孕的痛苦，生产的阵痛。虽然这样，你对丈夫仍然有欲望，而他要管辖你。”
　　主上帝对那男人说∶“你既然听从妻子的话，吃了我禁止你吃的果子，土地要因你违背命令而受诅咒。你要终生辛劳才能生产足够的粮食。土地要长出荆棘杂草，而你要吃田间的野菜。你要汗流满面才吃得饱。你要工作，直到你死，归于尘土；因为你是用尘土造的，你要还原归土。”
　　亚当给他妻子取名夏娃，因为她是人类的母亲。[注解]　主上帝用兽皮做衣服给亚当和他的妻子穿。
　　亚当和夏娃被赶出伊甸园　
　　后来，主上帝说∶“那人已经跟我们一样，有了辨别善恶的知识；他不可又吃生命树的果子而永远活下去。”[注解]　于是主上帝把他赶出伊甸园，让他去耕种土地──他原是用土造的。主上帝赶走那人以后，在伊甸园东边安排了基路伯，又安置了发出火焰、四面转动的剑，为要防止人接近那棵生命树。

　　Human Disobedience　
　　Now the snake was the most cunning animal that the LORD God had made. The snake asked the woman, "Did God really tell you not to eat fruit from any tree in the garden?"[注解]　
　　"We may eat the fruit of any tree in the garden," the woman answered, "except the tree in the middle of it. God told us not to eat the fruit of that tree or even touch it; if we do, we will die."
　　The snake replied, "That's not true; you will not die. God said that because he knows that when you eat it, you will be like God and know what is good and what is bad."[注解]　
　　The woman saw how beautiful the tree was and how good its fruit would be to eat, and she thought how wonderful it would be to become wise. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, and he also ate it. As soon as they had eaten it, they were given understanding and realized that they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and covered themselves.
　　That evening they heard the LORD God walking in the garden, and they hid from him among the trees. But the LORD God called out to the man, "Where are you?"
　　He answered, "I heard you in the garden; I was afraid and hid from you, because I was naked."
　　"Who told you that you were naked?" God asked. "Did you eat the fruit that I told you not to eat?"
　　The man answered, "The woman you put here with me gave me the fruit, and I ate it."
　　The LORD God asked the woman, "Why did you do this?" [注解]　
　　She replied, "The snake tricked me into eating it."[注解]　
　　God Pronounces Judgment　
　　Then the LORD God said to the snake, "You will be punished for this; you alone of all the animals must bear this curse: From now on you will crawl on your belly, and you will have to eat dust as long as you live. I will make you and the woman hate each other; her offspring and yours will always be enemies. Her offspring will crush your head, and you will bite her offspring's heel."[注解]　
　　And he said to the woman, "I will increase your trouble in pregnancy and your pain in giving birth. In spite of this, you will still have desire for your husband, yet you will be subject to him."
　　And he said to the man, "You listened to your wife and ate the fruit which I told you not to eat. Because of what you have done, the ground will be under a curse. You will have to work hard all your life to make it produce enough food for you. [注解]　It will produce weeds and thorns, and you will have to eat wild plants. You will have to work hard and sweat to make the soil produce anything, until you go back to the soil from which you were formed. You were made from soil, and you will become soil again."
　　Adam named his wife Eve, because she was the mother of all human beings. [注解]　And the LORD God made clothes out of animal skins for Adam and his wife, and he clothed them.
　　Adam and Eve Are Sent Out of the Garden　
　　Then the LORD God said, "Now these human beings have become like one of us and have knowledge of what is good and what is bad. They must not be allowed to take fruit from the tree that gives life, eat it, and live forever." [注解]　So the LORD God sent them out of the Garden of Eden and made them cultivate the soil from which they had been formed. Then at the east side of the garden he put living creatures and a flaming sword which turned in all directions. This was to keep anyone from coming near the tree that gives life.[注解]
