介绍（中）	1856年，吉福德第一次出国旅行时访问了意大利的蒂沃利。十几年后，他又回到了他所说的"世界上最好的景色之一"：沿着阿尼恩河的山谷，经过从所谓的迈塞纳别墅拱门倾泻而下的瀑布，向罗马进发。按照惯例，吉福德从大自然中快速绘制了几幅该遗址的铅笔草图。后来，他与他们合作，为纽约著名收藏家罗伯特·戈登创作了这幅画。典型的是，他的主要兴趣是渲染光的效果，用它来统一场景。薄薄的、透明的油漆层，色调上有微妙的过渡，暗示着气氛。
介绍（英）	Gifford visited Tivoli, Italy, in 1856, on his first trip abroad. A dozen years later, he was drawn back to what he described as “one of the finest views in the world”: the prospect toward Rome up the valley of the Aniene River, past the Cascatelle (waterfalls) pouring from the arches of the so-called villa of Maecenas. Following his customary practice, Gifford made several quick pencil sketches of the site from nature. He later worked from them to produce this painting for the leading New York collector Robert Gordon. Characteristically, his primary interest was in rendering the effects of light, using it to unify the scene. Thin, transparent layers of paint, with subtle transitions in tone, suggest the atmosphere.
