介绍（英）	In 1728, Chardin was admitted to the Académie Royale, and achieved immediate and lasting fame as a still-life painter. This picture is unusual in that it combines motifs from the kitchen and from elegant society, including a silver tureen he likely borrowed in order to paint. Exploration of unbalanced compositions and issues of scale—note the overly large fruit—are characteristic of Chardin’s early years. Sensitive to seventeenth-century still-life painters such as Jan Fyt, Chardin paints the bird’s feathers and hare’s coat with great subtlety, contrasting their stiffening stillness with the tense body of the crouching cat.
